Food energetics & TCM

You've heard of Yin & Yang, Right? ☯️

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Food Energetics are used to balance and alter the flow of energy in the body! The warming & cooling properties of foods can be used to aid health conditions, promote healing, or bring balance to the body! ⚖️

The goal is to promote balance and Harmony of Qi (chi)- or Life Force! Yin (Cooling) and Yang (warming) energies are assigned to foods based on their effects on the body. ❤️

You can get a sense of whether your pet is running hot or cold from their health and behaviors, by looking for signs such as:

🔥HOT: Seeking out cool places, constant panting, red/itchy eyes, Itchy/Rashy skin, hot spots, allergies, anxious or easily excited/restless

❄️COLD: Joint inflammation/Arthritis, asthma/breathing difficulties, Poor Appetite, Low Energy, Digestive Issues/IBD, Urinary Issues

But even when imbalance is not physically seen, Warming & Cooling Foods can be used to aid seasonal changes! For Example, we choose heavy/warm foods in winter, and Light/Refreshing foods in summer.

If your pet runs hot, stick to cooling proteins and foods for as long as necessary! Alternatively, warming foods for cold leaning animals.

🥦NON-MEAT FOODS!

🧡Warming: Sweet Potato, Squash, Oats, Turmeric, Coconut

🖤Neutral: Peas, Pumpkin, Carrot, Rice, Flax

💙Cooling: Apple, Banana, Watermelon, Duck Eggs, Kelp, Celery

*Hot/Warming foods should be fed only in moderation and balanced with neutral/cooling foods. Feeding in excess WILL cause inflammation. 🔥
